Implementation of NGT directions, operation of DEC fund reviewed at Ganderbal
Ganderbal: The District Administration Ganderbal under the chairmanship of Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Ganderbal, Farooq Ahmad Baba today convened a meeting of all members of District Environment Committee (DEC) to review the progress of implementation of NGT directions and operation of DEC Fund.
The meeting discussed in detail the action plan for enforcement of E-Waste management, ban on sale and use of all kinds of firecrackers
The ADC directed the constituted committee members to carry out drives for checking of informal trading, dismantling and recycling of Waste and facilitate collection and disposal of e-Waste.
He directed Assistant Commissioner Development Ganderbal and Executive Officer Municipal Council Ganderbal to put in place an effective mechanism for the collection and disposal of e-Waste in the district and furnish action taken report to this office within a week.
The Divisional Officer Pollution Control Board Ganderbal informed the meeting that the air quality in district Ganderbal is conducive for which he was directed to submit weekly statistics regarding air quality of the district.
The meeting was informed that land measuring 10 Kanals in estate Hakeem gund has already been transferred to the Housing and Urban Development Department. The ADC directed EO MC Ganderbal to furnish certificate for the execution of the project and get the requisite NOC from District Pollution Control Board.
Also the Executive Officer Municipal Council Ganderbal was directed to submit a detailed project report for installation of STP’s in the district.
Regarding bursting of firecrackers, the Divisional Pollution Control Board officer Ganderbal informed that usually there is no practice of bursting of Fire- Crackers in the district. However, the ADC directed Police authorities to keep a vigil on the same and submit monthly reports.
The Chief Education Officer Ganderbal was directed to launch an awareness campaign with regard to management of e-Waste in schools and submit an action taken report to this office within a week.
Regarding operation of District Environment Compensation Fund, all the members in the meeting unanimously decided that there is a need of establishment of District Environment Compensation Fund so that the directions of the NGT are complied in letter and spirit. The ADC directed for creation of an account regarding the same.
