Andy van den Dobbelsteen appointed Sustainability Coordinator

Professor Andy van den Dobbelsteen, full professor of Climate Design & Sustainability, has been appointed as TU Delft Sustainability Coordinator for two days a week. This appointment is initially for a period of four years. Van den Dobbelsteen succeeds Gerrit Kahlman, who retired in November. In the coming period, Van den Dobbelsteen will, in his new role, develop a sustainability vision and programme for the campus. The previously drawn up TU Delft CO2 Roadmap, the Roadmap Circular Campus 2030 and a new form of CO2 accounting will play a major role in this.

Passionate advocate of sustainability
“Sustainability has long been a central theme in our research and education, and increasingly in our campus operations. The desire to make our own organisation as sustainable as possible has become stronger and stronger in recent years, which is how the plan for a CO2-free campus came about in 2019,” says Rector Magnificus/President Tim van der Hagen. “Andy van den Dobbelsteen is the right person to bring this ambitious goal within reach. He combines the necessary technical-scientific knowledge with a sense for smart, practical solutions. Above all, we know him as a passionate advocate of sustainability, who, like no other, will be able to inspire the organisation and thus drive the change process.”

Work with all parts of the TU Delft
Van den Dobbelsteen shares this broad ambition: “Sustainability affects the entire TU Delft: how we build, how we manage our procurement and our finances, our energy and water consumption, but also our eating habits on campus and our means of transport as employees and students. I hope to be able to take significant steps towards a climate-neutral, circular campus on all these fronts in the near future. I am looking forward to working with all parts of the organisation.”
