SIIC IIT Kanpur Partners With KIC & DY Patil Education Group to kick start Kolhapur Startup Mission

Kanpur: With an aim to solve the civic issues in Kolhapur with the help of start-ups to find innovative solutions, the Government of Maharashtra in partnership with the Kolhapur Incubation Center (KIC) and Startup Incubation and Innovation Centre, IIT Kanpur supported by DY Patil Education Group launched the Kolhapur Start-up Mission.
The mission was kick-started virtually by Hon’ble Minister of State for Home and IT, Govt of Maharashtra Shri Satej Patil. This initiative aims to fulfil the ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ & ‘Make in India’ mission undertaken by the Government of India to fuel the spirit of innovation as well as nurture the start-up eco-system in India. Few of the most promising start-ups that successfully manage to provide tech-infused innovative solutions in the form of products and services to some of the critical civic issues plaguing Kolhapur City, namely – Water Management, Waste Management, Air Quality Management, Education, Public Health, E-governance, Agriculture, and Mobility & Transportation; could stand a chance to win a grant of INR.5 Lakhs Rupees from KIC in collaboration with SIIC, IIT Kanpur.
Hon’ble Minister of State for Home and IT, Govt of Maharashtra Shri Satej Patil said “Kolhapur has historically been a very enterprising city. Through Kolhapur Startup Mission, we want to invite young startups from across the country to our city. It is a robust initiative to facilitate testing of ideas and bring in innovative solutions to civic problems of Kolhapur through national engagement. I am confident this initiative will make Kolhapur a new startup destination”.
Renowned scientist Padma Vibhushan Dr. RA Mashelkar who was also present further added, “Kolhapur Startup Mission is a great initiative as it encourages innovative solutions for real life issues. A combination of innovation, passion and compassion will be seen through this initiative”, reinforcing his faith in the mission.
Present at the virtual event included Smt. Dr Kadambari Balkawade, IAS, Municipal Commissioner, Kolhapur, and Shri Ruturaj Patil, MLA, Kolhapur South Assembly. The event was hosted by Prof. Amitabha Bandyopadhyay, PIC, Incubation and Innovation, IIT Kanpur.

 

This mission in Kolhapur is being spearheaded by MLA Ruturaj Patil from Kolhapur constituency with the support of MoS Home & IT Satej Patil. This mission is an active step towards the skill-development of the youth by encouraging them be self-employed as well as increasing their participation in civic –welfare affairs by partnering with the government.
