Central University of Odisha observes 72nd Republic Day

Koraput: Central University of Odisha, Koraput celebrated 72nd Republic Day in a befitting manner at its Sunabeda campus. On this occasion, Prof. Kshiti Bhusan Das, Pro Vice-Chancellor of the University unfurled the tricolour and addressed the august gathering of faculty and staff of the University. He said “the University established in a backward region with an objective to increase the access to quality higher education by people in less educationally developed districts which have a Graduate Enrolment Ratio of less than the national average and that it may widen the access to quality higher education in the country. He laurelled about the objectives of Atma Nirvara Bharat and Shashakt Bharat. He reminded all the stakeholders of the Varsity about Swami Vivekananda’s oft-quoted slogan “Awake, arise, and stop not till the goal is achieved.” Each individual should indulge in self-introspection and realise the inner talent that he/she is endowed with. The concerned individual can be a catalyst in the social reformation and later play a vital role in the nation-building, he observed.

The Vice-Chancellor of the University Prof. I. Ramabrahmam addressed the University community through the virtual mode. He said “We are fortunate to witness the dawn of the 72nd Republic Day; it reminds us of our freedom struggle and how the great freedom fighters of our country sacrificed their lives to get us “PoornSwaraj”. It is because of their struggle that today we are living in a democratic country where each citizen has a right to equality, right to freedom, right against exploitation, right to freedom of religion, cultural and educational rights, right to constitutional remedies, amongst other freedoms. This is the power of our Constitution”.

Prof. Rambrahmam pointed out some of the important achievements and events of the Central University of Orissa like successful completion of Home Base Open Book Examination, Students admission through CUCET, launching of Bharosa, installation of Smart Class equipments, construction of modern administrative building and eco-friendly Staff Housing, Recruitment of teaching and non-teaching staff and recently launching of Executive MBA Programme during Covid19 pandemic. “A massive Action Research Project on Skill Development and Entrepreneurship will be launched for the empowerment of the SC and ST youth in Koraput” he said.

He announced, “The University will reopen from 01 February for Research Scholars and from 01 April for final year students in a phased manner adhering strictly to the protocol and guidelines of Covid19.”

The Registrar, Prof. Asit Kumar Das; Prof. S. K. Palita, Dean, Biodiversity and Conservation of Natural Resources; Prof. Saroj Kumar Panigrahi, Professor and Head of Mathematics; Prof. P. Durgaprasad, Visiting Professor; Dr. Jayant Kumar Nayak, Controller of Examinations, faculty and staff of the University were present. Dr. Phagunath Bhoi, Public Relations Officer of the University coordinated the event.
