Ural federal university: Chinese PhD Student From UrFU Creates a Project to Promote Ural School Museums

UrFU PhD culturology researcher Tao Mengting turned to the heads of Chelyabinsk region’s schools with a project that would promote local school museums worldwide.

The author of the idea intends to collect stories about the most interesting exhibits that are stored in schools of the Chelyabinsk region.

According to Mengting, who became one of the originators of the idea, teachers and students usually act as creators and curators of such museums. Meanwhile, such museums can store unique exhibits that only a limited circle of people knows about. So, in one of the schools there is a large collection of old Soviet postcards, and in the museum of one of the universities there are tickets to the canteen that have been preserved since 1923.

Mengting intends to create a ‘visual museum’, which will store photographs of unique exhibits. Thus, prospective students and their parents from all over the world can get to know Russia, Urals in particular, through stories of individual exhibits.

This project became part of the practical work of a student from China, which she performs together with other students in the framework of project activities. The creators will also include the Chelyabinsk participants of the ‘Test Drive UrFU’ project. They will photograph the first exhibits for the project. All pictures will become part of the exhibition.
