District Budgam nominated for award from Kashmir for eliminating TB
Budgam: The Deputy Commissioner (DC) Budgam, Shahbaz Ahmad Mirza, who is also the Chairman of District TB Control Society today, lauded the efforts of the functionaries for playing an important role vis-à-vis eradication of T.B in the district.
While addressing the gathering during a programme convened here, he hailed the Health Department for being nominated for the award and said that the district Budgam is one of the best performers in UT of J&K so far as elimination of TB is concerned.
During the program, Dr. Salim through a powerpoint presentation briefed the gathering and highlighted the aims and objectives of the National TB Elimination Programme.
He apprised the participants that District Budgam has been nominated for award from Kashmir Division for showing outstanding performance in eliminating TB disease from District on the basis of data uploaded in NIKSHAY portal which monitors the performance of all Districts at National level.
It is pertinent to mention here that a team of ICMR, National Institute of Epidemiology, WHO and Indian Association of SPM shall conduct verification of award claim from 8th February.
Dr. Salim said that vision of this programme is to have TB free India by 2025 which will be 5 years well ahead of set SDG Global Target of year 2030. Nearly 1/3rd of the Global TB burden is reported by India and our strategy has changed from controlling TB to Elimination this disease with the passage of time, he added.
During the program, CMO Budgam, Dr. Tajamul Hussain Khan said that instructions to all BMOs have already been given to work in tandem with Department of SPM, GMC Srinagar and ensure elimination of TB in the district.
The programme among others was attended by Professor & HOD SPM Department GMC Srinagar Dr. Salim Khan, STO Kashmir, WHO Consultant J&K, Director STDC, CMO and other concerned officers and officials.
