12th Foundation Day Celebrations of Central University of Punjab begins with a special programme on International Mother Tongue Language Day

 

Bathinda: To mark the 12th Foundation Day of the Central University of Punjab, Bathinda (CUPB), the faculty, staff members, students & alumni of the university kick-started an eight-day long Celebrations Programme to be held from 21-28 February 2021 with a special programme on International Mother Tongue Language Day. The ‘Eight-day long CUPB 12th Foundation Day Celebrations’ being conducted under the patronage of Vice Chancellor Prof. Raghavendra P. Tiwari is special as it comprises a series of Academic Activities, Cultural Activities & Sports Events. The marathon of events of this eight-day celebration that commenced with a special programme on Matra Bhasha Diwas will continue till CUPB Foundation Day on 28th February.

On the first day of this celebration, on 21st February, a special programme was organized on the occasion of the International Mother Tongue Language Day. Under this programme, an online lecture session was organized to spread awareness about linguistic, cultural diversity, and multilingualism. Hon’ble Chancellor Prof. Jagbir Singh attended this lecture. He complimented Vice Chancellor for organising this programme & stressed that we should always promote our mother tongue language as helps us to stay connected with our culture and values. The keynote speaker of this Webinar was Shri Atul Kothari, General Secretary, Rashtriya Shiksha Sanskriti Uthan Nyas, where he highlighted the importance of teaching in the mother language in the overall development of students, which has been given importance in NEP-2020. Apart from this, competitions on Declamation, Artistic Writing, Proverb Writing, Collections of Idioms and Proverbs, and Greetings in different Indian Languages are being organised in which university students & faculty members are enthusiastically participating.

Vice Chancellor Prof. Raghavendra P. Tiwari stated that the CUPB is the fastest growing newly established Central University of the country that has achieved many milestones within a short duration of 12 years of its establishment such as getting ‘A’ Grade Accreditation from NAAC, achieving 87th position in NIRF Rankings 2020 in the Best University Category in country etc. He informed, that this university is also known as ‘Mini India’ as it has students from 28 states, faculty from 18 states and staff members from 14 states. He emphasized that this ‘CUPB 12th Foundation Day Celebrations’ will provide an opportunity for our students to showcase their talent, represent their culture and learn new things from each other.

The other major competitive events that will be organised in the coming days during this ‘Eight-day long Celebrations’ will include Rangoli Competition, Best out of Waste Competition, Ideathon, Sports Meet, Food Carnival, Solo & Group Song Competition and Solo & Group Dance Competition. During the sports meet, indigenous games will be conducted to promote Indian traditions and culture. Further, on the occasion of National Science Day an Online International Science Quiz will be organized on 28th February, in which Prof. Shekhar C. Mande, DG, CSIR will deliver the inaugural address. In addition to this, Online Competitions on documentary making, oratory, photography, caption writing insta story, essay writing and other topics will also be held during these celebrations.

Apart from competitive events, a special three-lecture series will be organized during which eminent academicians Dr. Renu Swarup (Secretary, DBT), Padam Vibhushan Prof. M.M. Sharma (Former Director, Institute of Chemical Technology Mumbai) & Padam Bhushan Prof. Vijay P. Bhatkar (Hon’ble Chancellor, Nalanda University) will deliver online lectures on 23rd Feb, 25th Feb & 28th Feb respectively. Students from different states across the country and International students studying at CUPB will participate in these actives.
