Sqay Martial Art teams call on DDC Shopian

Shopian: The Sqay Martial Art teams today called on the District Development Commissioner (DDC) Shopian, Sachin Kumar Vaishya and sought his intervention in providing adequate infrastructure for promotion of this native sport throughout the district.

The teams headed by their coaches Ahsan ul Haq Bodha and Hamid Rashid apprised the DDC about achievements of the players in various competitions held at State, National and International level over the past five years.

The players while expressing gratitude to the district administration for being so supportive all the time put forth several demands including adequate space for training classes and construction of an indoor stadium in the district.

The DDC held detailed interactions with each player, congratulated them for their wonderful performance in recently concluded UT level competition and also appreciated their enthusiasm for the Sqay martial art.

He said that district administration will ensure that a proper training space is provided to them besides other facilities so that their training is not hampered. He also asked the coaches to initiate training classes for students of Bal Ashram Pinjoora to which the coaches readily agreed.

Among others District Information Officer Shopian, Showkat Ahmad Khan, DSWO Shopian Mohammad Shafait, District Youth Services and Sports Officer Gurmukh Singh Dutta, media persons and others were present.
