VRDL, JNMC gets ICMR nod for Quality Control, NABL accreditation
Aligarh, March 4: The Virus Research and Diagnostic Laboratory (VRDL) of the Department of Microbiology, Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College (JNMC), Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) is now an Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), New Delhi approved laboratory for Inter Laboratory Quality Control (ILQC) to perform molecular tests for Covid-19 detection and a National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories (NABL) accredited lab up to April 25, 2022.
The ICMR and NABL imprimaturs made headway after the test samples sent to National Institute of Virology (NIV), Pune revealed 100 percent concordant results, said Prof Haris M Khan, Chairman, Department of Microbiology.
He added that the JNMC laboratory has been assessed and accredited with the standard ISO 15189: 2012, ‘medical laboratories-requirements for quality and competence’ in the field of Testing. The only other lab with similar recognition in Uttar Pradesh is the VRDL facility at the King George’s Medical University, Lucknow.
Extending congratulations to the Department of Microbiology faculty members, AMU Vice Chancellor, Prof Tariq Mansoor said that JNMC has been on the forefront to curb the pandemic.
