Women’s Day observation at RHTC
Aligarh: Rural women were urged to prioritise their own physical and mental health, and well-being before juggling many roles and responsibilities during the International Women’s Day observation at the Rural Health Training Centre (RHTC)-Jawan, Department of Community Medicine, JN Medical College (JNMC), Aligarh Muslim University (AMU).
They were counselled against female foeticide, urged to challenge inequalities and made aware of menstrual hygiene and healthy practices by the RHTC doctors.
On the occasion, Prof Anees Ahmad (Chairperson, Department of Community Medicine) said, most of the Indian population still lives in rural areas, making it imperative to raise awareness on women empowerment in villages.
“This day comes as a reminder every year that women need to prioritise their health and well-being, before doing other things,” said Dr Tabassum Nawab (Assistant Professor and Medical Officer Health, RHTC).
She added that empowerment in real sense for rural women will come if they seek education for themselves and their daughters.
“Education not only brings employment, but it also helps women to understand the importance of good health,” said Dr Tabassum.
Dr Fazeelah Tasleem said that in the modern world, if women can be seen ploughing fields, they can also travel to space.
“Women need to have faith and determination to achieve their goals and their parents need to provide all the necessary support,” added Dr Fazeelah.
Dr Uzma Eram spoke on the ways of taking care of pregnant women and women of the reproductive age group.
Dr Hira Alam talked about the importance of healthy nutritional practices,
Dr Pawan, Dr Sudhir, Dr Danish, Dr Monish, Dr Iram, Dr Shahnawaz and others of the RHTC team of doctors displayed charts and posters on women health issues.
