Visit of the Head of Karelia to PetrSU
Head of the Republic of Karelia A.O. Parfenchikov met with the rector of PetrSU A.V. Voronin, visited new objects of the university’s innovative infrastructure: a closed water supply installation (RAS), Aquarium, Center for Adaptive Physical Culture, Center for Artificial Intelligence, and also met with students.
Director of the Institute of Biology, Ecology and Agricultural Technologies of PetrSU T.Yu. Kuchko, spoke about the Research Center for Aquaculture, created on the basis of the Institute with the aim of developing and coordinating scientific, educational and innovative production activities in the field of fish farming.
Its structure includes sectors for complex research in fish farming, microbiological and biotechnological research, as well as a training complex for a closed water supply installation.
The Head of Karelia was shown a fish feeding laboratory, which is equipped with modern equipment that allows to study fish feed and conduct research on the development of methods to improve the quality and safety of products produced in aquaculture; PCR laboratory for genotyping and genodiagnostics of aquaculture objects, on the basis of which scientific research in the field of molecular biology is conducted.
In a modern aquarium, which is equipped with all the necessary equipment for scientific research in the field of aquatic ecology and toxicology, Artur Olegovich was told how research is being conducted on the effect of pollution of the aquatic environment on the growth and development of fish, experiments on optimizing nutrition patterns and composition of feed to obtain maximum growth cold-water and warm-water aquatic organisms, development of methods for growing new aquaculture objects for the northern regions.
The Head of Karelia was also shown an educational complex with modern closed water supply installations (RAS) for teaching students. It is planned to conduct practical and training sessions at the RAS installations, as well as scientific work in the field of fish breeding and the development of innovative approaches for the industrial cultivation of aquaculture in the North-West region.
On the basis of the laboratory of alternative biotechnologies for processing fish waste, it is planned to study the production of protein hydrolysates from the wastes of commercial trout breeding, as well as components intended for the production of biohumus and medicinal additives to the feed of salmon species.
On the basis of the center, laboratory and practical classes, educational and industrial practice, as well as research work of bachelors and undergraduates of the direction of training ” Biology “, ” Ecology and nature management ” and ” Aquatic biological resources and aquaculture ” are carried out, course and final qualification works are carried out.
At the Center for Adaptive Physical Culture of PetrSU, the director of the Institute of Physical Culture, Sports and Tourism V.M. Kirilina said that the Center is a unique and kind of the only structural unit in the North-West aimed at sports and recreation work with the population with disabilities, combining the educational, scientific and material technical potential of the flagship university.
Students, volunteers of PetrSU and teachers work at the Center for Adaptive Physical Culture. They carry out physical culture events, physical culture and health-improving classes with children and adults with disabilities.
