Central University of Punjab organized a special programme to pay tribute to Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev on their Martyrdom Day
Bathinda: To commemorate the Martyrdom Day of Shaheed-E-Azam Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev, the Central University of Punjab, Bathinda (CUPB) organized a special lecture on the topic ‘Role of Sapta Sindhu Region in Independence Movement’. CUPB School of Languages, Literature and Culture conducted this programme as a part of Azaadi ka Amrut Mahotsav programme series. Vice Chancellor Prof. Raghavendra P. Tiwari presided over this programme. The keynote speaker of this programme was Prof. Harmohinder Singh Bedi, Chancellor, Central University of Himachal Pradesh. Faculty, staff members and students of university attended the programme through online mode.
While addressing the participants, Prof. Harmohinder Singh Bedi shared that the Sapt Sindhu region was the land with seven rivers where the oldest ancient holy scripture of human civilization Rig Veda was written. He talked about the influence of preaching of Bhagwat Geeta, Sri Guru Granth Sahib and our Gurus on the life and philosophy of the people of Sapta Sindhu region and stated that this region has given greatest freedom fighters who have made invaluable contribution towards Indian Freedom Struggle.
Prof. Bedi shared the life philosophy of Shaheed-e-Azam Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev and highlighted their contribution in awakening youngsters to live a life of freedom and dignity. He referred to Swami Dayanand, Lal Lajpat Rai, Bhagat Puran Singh, Madan Lal Dhingra, Shaheed Udham Singh, Kartar Singh Sarabha and other freedom fighters and pointed out that freedom fighters subscribing to different ideologies have inspired each other during this freedom movement to serve their motherland. He emphasized that people of Punjab are always ready to serve the society and soldiers from Punjab have played a vital role in different battles fought by our nation after independence.
On this occasion, Vice Chancellor Prof. Raghavendra P. Tiwari paid a rich tribute to the martyrs of Punjab. He expressed his gratitude towards Prof. Bedi for enlightening youngsters with his scholarly lecture and asserted that CUPB will organize series of programmes to mark 75 years of Indian Independence.
At the beginning Prof. Zameerpal Kaur, Dean School of Languages, Literature and Culture delivered welcome address and put a light on the programme theme. Dr. Rajinder Kumar Sen introduced the keynote speaker. Towards the end, Dr. Amandeep Singh Brar delivered formal vote of thanks.
