The results of the republican online competition “Reading the runes of the Kalevala epic” have been summed up
2021 in the Republic of Karelia is declared the Year of the Karelian runes. The Department of the Baltic-Finnish Philology of the Institute of Philology, the Scientific Library and the Primary Trade Union Organization of students of Petrozavodsk State University, the main university of the Republic of Karelia, organized and conducted a republican online competition “Reading the runes of the Kalevala epic”.
The competition was held in three nominations:
Runes in Karelian (Livvik dialect, actually Karelian dialect).
Runes in Vepsian language.
Runes in Finnish.
Age groups were defined in each nomination:
from 12 to 15 years old,
from 16 to 23 years old,
24 and older.
The competition committee consisting of the chairman – vice-rector for educational and social work of PetrSU V.K. Katarov, Deputy Chairman of the Competition Commission – Head of the Department of State Support of Indigenous Peoples of the Ministry of National and Regional Policy of the Republic of Karelia E.I. Migunova, Deputy Chairman of the Competition Commission – Head of the Department of Baltic-Finnish Philology of the Institute of Philology of PetrSU, Associate Professor, Doctor of History T.V. Pashkova and members of the commission summed up the results of the competition in nominations and age groups and identified 24 winners .
Among the winners are students of the Institute of Philology of PetrSU: Marina Gorina, Valeria Grafova, Ekaterina Martynkova, Anna Rogova, Alexander Saltanov, Kristina Seledkova, as well as graduates of our university: Vepsian language teacher of the Sheltozerskaya secondary school A.N. Anushenkova, specialist in folk crafts and handicrafts MBU “Ethnocultural center” KALEVALATALO “OA Bereznyak, methodologist on cultural interaction MBU” Ethnocultural center “KALEVALATALO” A.I. Lesonen, teacher of the Vepsian language at the secondary comprehensive Finno-Ugric school named after Elias Lönnrot K.A. Strelkovich, employee of the Sheltozero Vepsian Ethnographic Museum named after R.P. Lonina E.P. Foteev.
The winners will be awarded on the eve of the Day of Karelian and Vepsian Writing.
Diplomas and prizes will be sent to nonresident participants by mail.
