DC Kupwara inaugurates KVK workshop; Advises youth to become job givers, instead job seekers

Kupwara: Deputy Commissioner, Kupwara, Imam Din today inaugurated seven day workshop on ‘Skill Development Training on Scientific Bee Keeping,’ here.

The workshop was organized by Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Kupwara, a branch of SKUAST-K and sponsored by National Bee Board (GOI).

In his inaugural address, the Deputy Commissioner stressed upon the stakeholders to make best of this workshop by equipping themselves with expertise, knowledge and scientific knowhow of beekeeping. He asked them to ensure value addition of the products and process for branded names and tags so that good market facilities are made available to the entrepreneurs.

The Deputy Commissioner expressed his gratitude for having 90 percent female students in the workshop, which he said is a symbol of women empowerment, the vision envisaged by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Imam Din said that efforts are on to adopt cash crops in the district so that the timeline of 2022 to double the income of farmers is achieved.

Deputy Commissioner advised youth of the district to come forward and take benefits of the skill development programmes and become employment givers not employment seekers.

The Chief Agricultural Officer Kupwara, Nazir Ahmad Wani, who was the guest of honour on the occasion, said that KVK and Agriculture department are working together in the field and providing trainings to the farmers community and the youth to adopt new scientific techniques. He said 500 persons of Kupwara district are involved in beekeeping, who are generating employment avenues for themselves.

Earlier, Senior Scientist and Head KVK, Kupwara Dr.Sajad Mohi-u-din during the welcome address briefed about the workshop. He said the workshop will continue for 7 days during which the 25 participants, including 21 female, shall be given knowledge of all basics of scientific beekeeping. Apart from this, he said that the participants shall be taken on an exposure tour to SKUAST-K, FOA, Wadoora and local Apiaries.

The vote of thanks was given by Agriculture Scientists, KVK, Dr. Firdoos Ahmad Raina. He expressed his thanks for all participants including DIC Kupwara and News 18 Urdu correspondent for their support in awareness dissemination.
