White Knight Corps holds series of events to mark Rajouri Day
Rajouri: White Knight Corps paid rich tributes to martyrs on Rajouri Day by holding series of events to celebrate the Rajouri Day- the memorable day when the valiant Indian army and locals regained this part of the country from the possession of Pakistani intruders.
Pakistani Intruders captured the vital town of Rajouri in early 1947. On April 12, 1948, troops of 1 KUMAON along with Tanks of Central India Horse (CIH) and 5 & 30 Mountain Batteries advanced from Chingus for the liberation of Rajouri.
On April, 13, 1948, Rajouri was liberated from the intruders by the heroic action of the armed forces assisted by the brave citizens of Rajouri.
Rajouri Day is celebrated every year to pay homage to the brave military and civilian martyrs who laid down their lives for the liberation of Rajouri. On this day, homage is paid to the heroism of 2nd Lt RR Rane of 37 Assault Field Company who was responsible for clearing the road from Naushera to Rajouri. This year too, as tradition dictates, the White Knight Corps celebrated the historic spectacle with characteristic gaiety and fervour, albeit with all COVID protocols in place.
The celebrations started with an online painting competition wherein young students participated from the safety of their homes.
The students displayed creative and thought-provoking paintings by bringing the kaleidoscope of their imagination on a sheet of paper.
The celebrations continued for a second day as on 09th April, wherein a conclave of Next of Kin and our gallant ex-servicemen, presided over by the GOC, Ace of Spades Division was conducted.
The General officer felicitated the Next of Kin of the martyred soldiers as a part of the noble initiative to dedicate this year’s Rajouri Day as the ‘Swarnim Vijay Varsh: Commemoration of 50 years of victory in 1971 Pak War’ to honour the supreme sacrifice made by their loved ones for Rajouri’s liberation.
More than 150 people attended the occasion. The day had a plethora of support centres lined up including Assistance Booths for the Ex-Servicemen, a Medical Camp, Artificial Limb Centre and much more, leaving the present audience impressed and mesmerized.
Mental ability is best judged when one does not give up and this applies very well to Marathon. On 11th April i.e. Sunday, a marathon of five & 10 Kms was organised for the people of Rajouri. The day saw many eminent personalities and Rajauri’s young blood full of zeal and enthusiasm, participating in the event making it a grand success.
The pitch was raised to a patriotic fervour on 13th April, which commenced with paying homage to the martyrs and the brave citizens of Rajouri who had laid down their lives for its liberation from Pakistani raiders in the year 1948. The wreath was placed on behalf of GOC, White Knight Corps, GOC, Ace of Spades Division, Station Commander, Rajouri, & other civil & military dignitaries.
The event progressed with an all religious prayer meet, affirming the bond of unity in India, followed by a cultural programme that consisted of a colourful display of ethnic kaleidoscope by the children of various schools. Spectacular performances by budding young children were appreciated by the crowds with pop cheer and tumultuous clapping. Young performers were felicitated by the Chief Guest. Splendid performances by the renowned and reputed Police & BSF Bands kept the audience captivated with the melodious harmony and flawless moves. The day’s event also included the display of Martial Arts, Equipment display, a grand Military Dog and Equestrian show. This historic event will be etched in the memories of the natives of Rajouri for a long time.
