Azadi Ka Amrut Mahotsav: Lecture on Contribution of AMU to freedom struggle

Aligarh: In compliance with the guidelines of the Ministry of Education, Government of India, Sir Ziauddin Hall, AMU, organized an online lecture on Celebration of 75 years of India’s Independence- ‘Azadi ka Amrut Mahotsav.
Addressing the gathering, chief speaker, Mr. Mohammad Nasir (Assistant Professor, Department of Law AMU) spoke on “Contribution of AMU in the freedom struggle”. “Our freedom fighter’s greatest contribution was not the freedom of India from the British, but the liberation of Indian minds from fear. Without the latter the former would not have been possible” remarked Nasir during his lecture.
“The present era represents a significant moment in the vertex of history of India and AMU, as we have India @75 coinciding with AMU@ 100” said Nasir while highlighting that for its historical nationalist fervour and contribution in nation building, AMU is recognised as an ‘Institution of National Importance’ under the Seventh Schedule of the Constitution of India.
Drawing attention on the events leading up to the birth of AMU at the height of the Non-Cooperation Movement, he elaborated, “Aligarh became the nucleus to intensify the struggle for national liberation since one of the first non-cooperation upheaval was among the student population of the MAO College. Reports of a nationalistic fervour at the College prompted Mahatma Gandhi and Ali brothers to visit Aligarh and appeal to the students to boycott their government controlled institution”.
He further spoke on the significant and positive role played in the national struggle by the distinguishing products of Aligarh, such as Maulana Hasrat Mohani, Raja Mahendra Pratap, Ali brothers, Khan Abdul Ghaffar Khan etc.
Prof Reyazuddin (Provost, Sir Ziauddin Hall ), delivered the welcome address in which he spoke on the relevance of the topic and paid homage to great personalities who laid down their lives in the freedom struggle.
The event was conducted by Dr. Ahmed Musa Khan, Assistant Professor, Department of Commerce and Warden, Sir Ziauddin Hall, AMU.
Wardens- Dr. Naseem Ahmad, Dr. Shekh Belal Ahmad, Dr. Kaleem Ahmad, Dr. Shakeel Javaid and Dr. Mohd Saeem Khan along with the students and non-teaching staff of the hall attended the online session.
