SKUAST-J organises Field-Day cum Awareness Programme on Zero tillage in Wheat

 

Jammu: Field day cum awareness programme on Zero Till Cultivation of Wheat was conducted by Division of Agronomy, SKUAST-J under Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana- Project entitled “Demonstrations on Zero Till Technology for Temporal Management of Wheat in Basmati Rice-Wheat System” for the farmers as well as Extension officers of the Agriculture department.

The purpose of the programme was to demonstrate the field performance of Zero tilled wheat taken after the harvest of Basmati rice besides an interaction/ awareness session about the benefits of Zero tilled wheat which is not only a profitable but a resource conservation technology as well.

Dr. B. C. Sharma, Prof. and Head Division of Agronomy & PI of the Project explained about the benefits of zero tillage wheat especially in basmati rice-wheat cropping system where wheat sowing always gets delay due to late harvesting of basmati rice. He also stressed the need for creating awareness among the farmers for adopting zero till cultivation.

Dr R. Puniya, Jr. Scientist, AICRP-Weed Management, Division of Agronomy discussed the cultivation practices of Zero-till wheat to farmers as well as field functionaries of line departments. Dr. Amrish Vaid, Chief Scientist and Nodal Officer, Mega seed Project expressed disease management especially in wheat to farmers as well as field functionaries of line departments. The programme ended with vote of thanks by Dr R. Puniya, Jr. Scientist, AICRP-Weed Management, Division of Agronomy, SKUAST Jammu. The programme was organized following all the COVID-19 standard operating protocols and guideline.
