University of Tokyo: Introduction of Global Commons Stewardship Index in a book published by OECD

The GCSi was jointly developed by UTokyo’s Center for Global Commons (CGC), Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN), and Yale University. The index comprehensively assesses, compares, and visualizes impact of each country’s socioeconomic activities on the Earth System. It evaluates the environmental impact of both domestic and international activities resulted from export and import for the first time in the world.

The book introduces a set of new governance and analytical tools, lessons learned from country experiences, and good emerging practices for managing spillover and transboundary effects in the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. The chapters were reviewed by OECD member states and the European Commission. Introduction of the GCSi in this book is extremely significant in terms of international recognition of its value.
