AMU mourns demise of retired faculty
Aligarh: Distinguished superannuated faculty member of the Department of Moalejat, Faculty of Unani Medicine, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), Prof Mukhtar Husain Hakim died of brief illness in late hours of Monday. He was laid to rest in the University Graveyard.
“We are deeply saddened on the news of Prof Mukhtar Husain’s demise. He has contributed a lot to the Faculty of Unani Medicine, the University and the broader medical community. He will be greatly missed”, said AMU Vice Chancellor, Prof Tariq Mansoor.
The Vice Chancellor added that the sad demise is a personal loss to him.
Extending condolences, Prof Mohd Yunus Siddiqui (Chairman, Department of Moalejat) said that Prof Mukhtar Husain was a mentor to countless faculty and trainees.
“Prof Mukhtar Husain will be sorely missed by generations of students and teachers. He was famous for his diagnostic approach and practice of Internal medicine,” he added.
Prof Mukhtar Husain joined the Department of Moalejat as a lecturer in 1987 and retired as a professor of modern medicine in 2016. He also worked as a medical specialist in the Ministry of Health and Education, Iran from 1980 to 1987. His published work appeared in peer-reviewed journals.
He did MBBS and MD (Medicine) in 1972 and 1978 respectively from the Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College (JNMC), AMU.
Prof Mukhtar Husain is survived by daughter, Tabassum Fatima; son, Mohammad Raza and wife.
