The University of Hong Kong (HKU) defeated Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) and won the University Sports Federation of Hong Kong (USFHK) Men’s Badminton Championship. In the deciding match of a best 3 of 5, with Joshua Wang Che winning his final singles match with 21-7 and 21-12.
The final match was held at the Education University of Hong Kong on April 25 (Sunday).
“This is the first time in over 30 years that HKU men’s badminton team has won the overall University Championships,” said Dr. Michael Tse, Director of the Centre for Sports and Exercise, who was there along with Mr Steve Lo, Executive Vice-President (Administration and Finance) of HKU, to support the team.
Mr Lo, himself an alumni and avid supporter of HKU sport was thrilled by the effort and determination of the student athletes, raising one of the loudest and proudest hip hip hooray cheers for HKU and the team. “Sport is such an important part in the whole person development and building of team spirit not only for our student athletes, but for all of our HKU community. To see the team play with such high spirit and determination made me very proud today as EVP and as an alumni.” Mr Lo said, adding: “We are determined to build more on these special moments that illustrate the ‘can-do’ spirit of HKU.”
