Electric Vehicle Industry In High Spirits With Niti Aayog’s New Action Plan
New Delhi: Electric Vehicle industry hails government’s decision that Niti Aayog will find ways to implement electric mobility in India. A team selected by Niti Aayog seeks removal of all permit requirements for electric vehicles considering they are clean ways to commute, environment-friendly and it’s about time that government starts promoting them.
The report of the task force prepared jointly by Niti Aayog also stated a long term vision for intra-city electric buses. Task force suggests doing away with all permit requirements for electric vehicles in order to promote electric mobility since getting and renewing permits every year is costly and time consuming.
Besides, the report also indicated that the two-wheelers and three-wheelers market has a huge potential for adopting EV technologies. And rather they should be targeted for large scale adoption of EV technologies. It also proposed restraining high-mileage polluting vehicles, reinforcement of Pollution-Under-Control (PUC) regime, permitting retailing of bio-fuels and promoting electric-mobility.
Welcoming this move, Mr. Ayush Lohia, CEO, Lohia Auto Industries said “The future of EVs in fact looks quite promising for electric 2W and electric 3W plying on Indian roads. Niti Aayog’s proposal is also in sync with government’s aims to make India a 100% electric vehicle nation by 2030 as these vehicles not only help users save money, but also promote a safe and clean environment which is the biggest health concern today. The action plan by Niti Aayog will prove to be beneficial for both Consumers and the nation in the long run.”
In addition the report by Niti Aayog has addressed important issues of banning vehicles older than 20 years and that traffic police should have powers to lift and scrape non-compliant vehicles.
Furthermore, another task force formed by Niti Aayog in a report titled ‘Action Plan for Clean Fuel’ pointed that that taxation and pricing strategy is essential to grant impetus to cleaner fuels and discouraging the use of polluting ones.
