NRLM Women’s Self Help Group working as community warriors to contain the spread of COVID-19

 

Pulwama: In order to prevent further spread of Covid 19 infection, Jammu and Kashmir Rural Livelihood Mission/NRLM teams have launched a fumigation drive in various villages of Pulwama

In this connection SHG group members of UMEED have started fumigation drive in a number of villages including Looswuni, Gusso, Wahibugh ,Gangoo, Hanjikhilo and Chakpora Newa in the district .

During the drive Mosques, shops ,streets and houses have been fumigated to prevent the spread of Covid-19 disease.

Community Centre Cluster Head of Village Wahibugh Nuzhat shafi said that Self help groups are active from last seven years engaged in handicrafts and other income generating units for women She said that they have started fumigation drive from Wahibugh Pulwama which will be carried out in more villages of the district .

“Government is providing us with disinfectant chemicals and PPE Suits ,while rest of items we are buying from our own pockets ,Besides fumigation and sanitation , our aim is to make people aware about precautionary measures to be followed in letter and spirit to beat this deadly pandemic ,”She added.

District Coordinator NRLM Arshid Ahmad said that the aim of campaign is to make people especially women aware about how to look after themselves during the pandemic with utmost care to contain spread of this infection . He said that Self Help Groups (SHGs) across the district have emerged as community warriors by contributing in every possible way to contain the spread of COVID-19. “Last year Self Hep Groups produced masks, manufactured PPE kits, produced bulk quantity of hand sanitizers and soaps to guarantee hygiene and helped not only vulnerable families but also the Government across the valley” he added.
