Bengaluru : JAGSOM, formerly known as IFIM Business School, one of the top 6 B-schools in India to have been awarded the coveted AACSB accreditation, celebrated its 25th Annual Convocation. The ceremony, which was hosted virtually, saw 208 students across the PGDM 2-Year Program and PGDM Working Professionals Program graduate this year. The event was graced by Chief Guest Mr. Madhukar Govindaraju, CEO, Numly Inc and Dr. Jagdish Sheth, Chairman and Board of Governors, JAGSOM.
The Institute, which is celebrating its Silver Jubilee, recently made its debut in the QS World University rankings figuring in the 51+ band in the Specialized Masters in Marketing and 101+ band in the Finance Masters Program. The institute saw more than 70 companies recruited from the campus through virtual placement sessions. The year witnessed increased participation from both marquee and a sizable number of new recruiters, primarily comprising the new-age companies.
Besides the marquee logos like Oracle, KPMG, Grant Thornton, Dell, HDFC, BNY Mellon, E&Y, Hexaware that came for recruitment this year; JAGSOM has emerged as a preferred destination for the new-age companies, like Numly, OSG, Arcesium, NoPaperForm, Cuemath, Jaro, MetricStream, Scaler, SmartKnower many of whom are headquartered in the US. The highest package on offer was INR 1.6 Million per annum, with an average salary of more than INR 1 Million per annum.
Addressing the graduating batch Dr. Jagdish Sheth, Chairman and Board of Governors, JAGSOM, said, “If you take a grain of wheat and make it into a loaf of bread, its value-added is about 3 times. I’m proud to announce that you are the first batch to go from the physical to the digital world. Today learning is easy because all the knowledge comes to you. If the student is ready the teacher will show up! The more you learn the more you will be active and more you will be engaged. Society has given so much to you and from now on think about giving back and always remember, the best way to change yourself is to have gratitude.”
During the convocation address, Chief Guest, Mr. Madhukar Govindaraju, CEO, Numly Inc said, “Always follow your passion and success will follow you. Your convocation is a brief stopover for your lifelong learning journey. As we gather here let us not forget the sacrifice of frontline workers without which we would have been nowhere. So, let us offer deepest condolences to all the loved ones we lost and gratitude for the ones who are with us. A leader is one who excels in coping with change by focusing, aligning, and striving towards challenging the change. Four principles to become a great leader are: always question the status quo, accept failure, make decisions on data and analysis, and go beyond yourself. As a leader, never take decisions on your own, no matter who you are, ensure your team is a part of every decision. This is the most important lesson I learned as a leader. Always strive towards personal and intellectual growth.”
Dr. Atish Chattopadhyay, Director, IFIM Business School while highlighting the key events of this academic year expressed, “JAGSOM is one of the first institutions in India to have not only successfully placed the graduating class of 2021 but also completed all the academic requirements to hold the 25th Convocation. The integrated pathway of research incubation followed by super-specialization and internship has led to an engagement-driven placement outcome with success. There were some concerns raised at the start of the pandemic, whether we should continue or not, and we decided to go ahead – in the words of Tagore, ‘if no one responds to your call, then go your own way alone. Today we stand vindicated, and we are here virtually to witness this big moment where you as a batch graduated on time. Keep shining and uphold the values of non-self-centeredness, contribution, empathy, and humility.”
The convocation was also attended by Sanjay Padode, Chairman, Center for Developmental Education (CDE), along with faculty members from JAGSOM and VijayBhoomi University, the graduating students, and proud parents of the graduating batch, which included both regular and executive PGDM students.
