DC Rajouri discusses strategy for the effective conservation, management of water resources

Rajouri: Deputy Commissioner Rajouri, Rajesh K Shavan today discussed the strategy for the effective conservation and management of water resources in the district here in a meeting with the concerned officers.

Among the others, ADDC, Pawan Kumar; ADC Rajouri, Sachin Dev Singh; DFO Rajouri, Dr Arshdeep Singh; DFO Nowshera, Suresh Manda; Dy DEO, Parveen Akhter; DSEO, Bilal Rashid Mir; CAO, Mahesh Verma; ACD, Sushil Khajuria; DPO, Chander Kant Bhagat; CAO, Najma Azmeen; WWO, Dr Anum Mirza; Administrator OSC, Nitu Sharma; Project Officer DUDA, Kavita besides other concerned officers attended the meeting.

The meeting discussed the construction of water harvesting structures, conservation/rejuvenation of traditional water bodies, plantation drives and constitution of water conservation cell was held threadbare in the meeting.

The Deputy Commissioner directed the Chief Accounts Officer to set up a special water conservation cell exclusively for the ladies in the DC office within two days and designate 20 ladies as the nodal officers of the cell.

The Deputy Commissioner also directed for the registration of maximum women including female sarpanches, punches and all the female employees of the district within two weeks. The women would discuss issues related to water conservation and other issues related to them.

To meet the scarcity of drinking water in the district, the Deputy Commissioner informed that the District Administration has decided to install 600 new handpumps in the district this year in consultation with the DDC members and BDC Chairp\ersons.

The Deputy Commissioner also said that several defunct handpumps have been repaired in the district.

The Deputy Commissioner also directed the concerned officers to generate mass awareness among the common masses about the water conservation-related works being carried out in their areas and also keep a close eye on the progress of the works.

The Deputy Commissioner also directed the concerned officers to conduct a village wise survey and identify the water resources where the work of repair, restoration and rejuvenation of water resources is to be executed so that they can be repaired and renovated in a phased manner.

The concerned officers from the Forest and IWMP have been directed to carry out massive plantation drives along with the water resources in the rural areas. The Assistant Commissioner Development has been directed to identify 5000 works related to water conservation in the district and immediately start the work on them after identification.
