KU Leuven: KU Leuven climbs to 70th place in QS World University Rankings

KU Leuven has risen no fewer than 14 places in the QS World University Rankings. This increase is mainly due to a higher score for the parameter that QS uses to measure research impact. KU Leuven is the only Belgian university to be in the top 100.

The QS World University Rankings have been published since 2004. The ranking is based on six parameters:

academic reputation (40%), based on a survey of more than 130,000 academics from around the world;
the opinion of 75,000 employers worldwide (10%);
the average number of citations per faculty (20%);
the average number of students per academic staff member (20%);
the proportion of international researchers (5%);
the proportion of international students (5%).
KU Leuven scored particularly well this year for the parameter citations per faculty . The university achieves a score of 96.6 out of 100 for this parameter, placing it in 29th place worldwide.
