DDC Rajouri reviews working of Education department; Seeks focus on female literacy; provision of safe drinking water, functional toilet & playfield in schools
Rajouri : District Development Commissioner Rajouri, Rajesh K Shavan today asked for laying special focus on increasing Female literacy, making provision of safe drinking water, functional toilet & playfield in every school.
The DC was reviewing the working of the Education Department here at a meeting of the concerned officers held in the Conference Hall of the PWD Dak Bunglow.
The meeting was attended by ADDC, Pawan Kumar; ACD, Sushil Khajuria; CPO, Mohammad Khurshid; SE PWD, Javed Iqbal; SE Jal Shakti, JP Singh; CEO Education, Gulzar Hussain; ExEn Jal Shakti Rajouri, Mushtaq Ahmed; ExEn PWD Rajouri, Maqbool Hussain; ExEn REW, Noor Ali and ZEOs besides other concerned officers.
A threadbare discussion was held on the physical and financial progress on the developmental works being executed under District Capex Budget, State Capex Budget and SAMAGRA, enrollment of students, construction of playfields, safe drinking water and functional toilet facilities in schools, female literacy rate, the status of applications being invited for the scholarship schemes and other points.
Giving a resume of activities, the Chief Education Officer informed that there are as many as 90997 students enrolled in Government Schools to date including 46000 boys and 44997 girls.
About the progress under the State Capex Budget, the meeting was informed that out of 31 projects, the work on 08 stands completed in all respects, while the rest are at different phases of execution. Regarding the performance under District Capex Budget, the concerned officer apprised that out of 34 projects, the work on 20 is complete.
The meeting was further apprised that against 11 projects being executed under the languishing scheme, the work on 5 is complete and the rest are under progress.
Regarding the civil works under SSA, it was apprised that out of 5057 projects, the work on 4479 projects is complete. About the school buildings being constructed under RMSA, the meeting was told that the work on 35 schools out of 38 is complete and the rest are at different phases of execution.
While giving details of the works being executed under SAMAGRA, it was informed that out of 258 projects, 135 are complete, work on 29 is in progress, 22 have been tendered while there is an issue of availability of land regarding 72 school buildings.
The DDC directed the concerned ZEOs to take up the matter regarding the non-availability of land for works under SAMAGRA with the concerned Tehsildars to settle the issue.
About 100 buildings to be constructed in convergence with MGNREGA, the concerned officer informed that the work on 08 buildings is complete and the work on 79 is held up due to lack of funds, while 13 other works could not be taken up.
The DC also inquired about disbursement of scholarship and distribution of dry ration of mid-day meal.
While reviewing the availability of the LPG connections in the schools, the concerned officer informed that 70 schools in the district don’t have LPG gas connections, the DDC asked the CEO Education to take concrete measures in this regard.
The DDC also directed the CEO take steps for improving the women literacy rate in the district and minimizing the drop-out rate.
He also directed the CEO Education to ensure that all the mobile schools are made functional within the shortest possible time so that the physical classes of the students are started.
About the unused assets, the DDC asked the ZEOs to submit the list of the vacant school buildings in their respective jurisdictions.
The DDC also directed the ZEOs to conduct survey to list the transgender students so that concrete measures are taken to ensure that they live a dignified life in society.
The DDC also inquired from the Chief Education Officer about the online classes being organised for the students in the district amid COVID19.
The Chief Education Officer also submitted the proposal for the start of Community classes in the far-flung areas of the district with a minimum strength of the students.
The DDC further directed for taking steps to regulate the fee of private schools in view of several complaints being received about overcharging.
For the development of playfields proposed for each school of the district, the DDC directed the ZEOs to identify land in their areas of their respective jurisdictions.
He also directed concerned departments to ensure functioning toilet and drinking water facility in the schools within ten days.
