UNESCO inaugurates the CreativeSpace on the occasion of the NinevArt programme launch in partnership with The Station in Mosul

UNESCO was delighted to inaugurate the CreativeSpace on the occasion of the NinevArt programme launch in partnership with The Station in Mosul.

The CreativeSpace will serve as a hub for Moslawi young artists to express themselves creatively, exhibit and sell their work, organize cultural events, met with creative entrepreneurs, artists and musicians, collaborate, exchange, share, network, develop their capacity, and hence, improve accessibility to arts and contribute to appreciation of Mosul’s cultural diversity and creativity among the wider audience and to revive the cultural life in Mosul.

The opening event consisted of welcoming remarks from The Station management, H.E. the Mayor of Mosul, who thanked UNESCO for its continuous support, and the Head of Culture at UNESCO Iraq Office, Mr Junaid Sorosh-Wali. “As the destruction of culture is often at the frontline of conflict, the promotion of arts and culture in support of cultural pluralism must be at the forefront of peacebuilding and recovery efforts that promote cultural rights and rebuild trust in local communities”, he said.

The partnership between UNESCO and The Station through NinevArt programme will have a positive impact on the creative community and economy of Nineveh and aim to induce a new perceptions about the city.

This programme is part UNESCO’s project “Reviving Mosul and Basra Old Cities”, generously funded by the European Union,  and aims to foster resilience, social cohesion and reconciliation through the creation of jobs and the rehabilitation of urban cultural heritage and cultural life to “Revive the Spirit of Mosul”!
