Ural Federal University: Students Showed Excellent Results at WorldSkills in the Competence “Industrial Automation”

Students of the Ural Power Engineering Institute of Ural Federal University took part in the university WorldSkills championship in the competence of “Industrial Automation” from June 26 to 28. The competition was held at the site of the WorldSkills Demonstration Examination Center (Verkhnepyshma Mechanics and Technology College “Yunost”).

During the competition the participants had to create an industrial electric drive automation project, carry out the mechanical and electrical installation of the equipment, “up” the industrial control network, program the electric drive control system, detect failures and carry out commissioning. They were given 16 hours to do this during the two championship days.

As a result, the fourth-year bachelors Artem Kudryashov and Alexander Troshin on a 500-point scale got close scores and both won first place. Third-year bachelor Ivan Kiryukhin took bronze.

“The purpose of the event for us is to improve skills and identify the most prepared guys for their further training and professional development. The nature of the tasks corresponds to a number of competences necessary for engineers to successfully compete in the labor market, and preparation for the national finals competition contributes to obtaining skills inherent to professionals,” said Anatoly Zyuzev, professor of the Electric Drive and Automation of Industrial Plants Department.
