GCW Parade holds series of events to mark World population, Paper Bag day

 

JAMMU : Government College for Women, Parade Ground, today held a series of events to commemorate World Population Day and World Paper bag day.

The programme was held under the supervision of Principal of the College, Dr. S.P Sarswat and the supervision of the NSS Program Officers, Dr. Mohammad Majeed (HoD Urdu department), Dr Gurpreet Kour (Assistant Professor, Chemistry) and Dr. Pervaiz Ahmed (Assistant Professor, Zoology).

The theme of the events were, “The Impact of Covid 19 pandemic on Fertility”, and”Eradicate Plastic and Safeguard Earth”, respectively. About 300 volunteers participated in the event. Activities like Poster making competition, sharing informative and awareness videos etc were also the part of the said event.

The NSS Volunteers held a series of discussions on topics like Increase in the death rate during the coronavirus pandemic and the pros and cons of using paper bags. These discussions were held on the Cisco Webex meeting app under the supervision of NSS Program Officer, Dr. Gurpreet Kour.

The participants enunciate their views and messages through speeches and poetry. They also shared awareness videos among themselves and with their family and friends to raise awareness on the hazards the plastic bags pose to life and the environment. The volunteers also shared creative videos on how to make paper bags at home.

This two day event was organized by NSS Unit of GCW Parade Ground Jammu, in which students and faculty staff of the college showed a great deal of interest and participation. The NSS unit of the college is working towards spreading mass awareness about various social issues which need to be looked into for a healthier and cleaner environment.
