University of Freiburg: Amendment of the University’s Constitution
The amendment of the Baden-Württemberg State University Law on 1 January 2021 requires universities to update their constitutions – and this includes the constitution of the University of Freiburg.
On 28 July the University of Freiburg’s Senate will hold a second reading of the draft statutes which have been developed by a Senate committee. Then the board will vote on the amendment of the constitution. To do this there must be a two-thirds majority of voting members of the Senate. Topics for amendment resolutions which may be passed, having already undergone a first reading in the Senate, include the composition of the Selection Committee that oversees the choice of members of the Rectorate, the obligation for an explanation to be provided if insufficient candidates are proposed for election to the Senate, the composition of the faculty councils, the management of university institutions, and the arrangements for senior professorships.
