30th AIMS Annual Management Education Convention, 2018 focuses on the theme ‘Management Education: Connecting the Dots’

Bangalore: S. P Mandali’s Prin. L. N. Welingkar Institute of Management Development & Research (WeSchool), Bangalore organized the 30th AIMS Annual Management Education Convention at the Infosys Convention Centre, Bangalore. The theme of the convention was ‘Management Education – Connecting the dots’. The convention commenced with an address from Dr. Anil Rao Paila, AIMS President and Senior Dean & Director at S. P Mandali’s Prin. L. N. Welingkar Institute of Management Development & Research Bangalore. It marked it’s inauguration in the presence of Mr. Deepak Padaki- Executive Vice President – Group Head – Corporate Strategy and Chief Risk Officer, Infosys Ltd, Advocate S. K. Jain, Chairman, Managing Council, S. P. Mandali and Local Managing Committee, WeSchool and Prof. Dr. Uday Salunkhe, Group Director – WeSchool & Convention Chief Patron . Prof. Anil D Sahasrabudhe, Chairman, AICTE delivered the keynote address on the future of management education. The convention was host to a gathering of over 600 representatives from various backgrounds such as academia, student, industry and member community.
In his inaugural address, Dr. Anil Rao Paila, AIMS President and Senior Dean & Director at S. P Mandali’s Prin. L. N. Welingkar Institute of Management Development & Research (WeSchool), Bangaloresaid, “At AIMS it is our constant endeavour to bring about the necessary change in the education system that is needed to keep pace with the changing times. I believe AIMS has been instrumental in spreading knowledge. “
Guest of honour, Advocate Shri. S. K. Jain, Chairman, Managing Council, S. P. Mandali and Local Managing Committee (WeSchool) said, “Today, management education is more multifaceted than it was before. Specialization in a particular field is not sufficient. A manager must know all the management fields in order to lead a team of new executives. AIMS provides a great platform, which can chalk out solutions for management education and its role in the industry.”
While presenting the vote of thanks, Prof. Dr Uday Salunkhe, Group Director, S.P Mandali’s Prin. L. N. Welingkar Institute of Management Development & Research (WeSchool), said, “There is a sense of exigency on how the new-age workforce needs to be constant learners as only the ones with a sense of ‘curiosity’ will be victorious in this VUCA world. An agile workforce is key to survival in the rapidly changing and dynamic world that we live in today. There is a cultural shift-taking place across organizations in order to be able to function at a speed required by the competitive marketplace, where organizations are moving away from the hierarchical structures to a more agile team structure. Education institutions have a larger role to play to create future leaders who are adept with skills relevant in the future. To achieve this, education institutions themselves need to undergo disruption, which will bring in new value propositions, generate new ideas and pave the way for management education of the future.”
The inaugural session highlighted the need for Management Education to redefine itself in terms of not just functional areas, but also strategy and leadership in the panel discussion ‘Leading Change in Management Education – Leading Self, Leading Others, Leading Change’. In his Keynote address, Mr. Sreekanth A, Senior Vice President, Integrated Workforce Management and India Co-Managing Director – DXC spoke extensively about Leadership and Innovations.
The convention covered topics such as ‘Co-creating the Future’, ‘Innovation in Management Education: Sharing of Best Practices’, ‘Research Initiatives and Quality benchmarks in Management Education’ and ‘How are we going to survive Tsunami of Tech Disruption?’ which were discussed by eminent speakers. The plenary sessions deliberated on skill set shift, globalisation, digitisation, future learning spaces, research that will make learning more outcome driven. Learning, unlearning and relearning was viewed as a way of lifelong learning. An attitude for practising new concepts with repeated behaviour and emotional intelligence was counted as key for academia and future managers. Speakers from the academia shared their best practices like non-classroom learning, application of mobile technology inside classroom and growing significance of blended learning. Students from B Schools asked questions to speakers on existence of classroom learning, skills required for non-tech professionals and recruiters perspective on hiring young talent.
