DC Reasi approves cases under ‘Development of Aquaculture in private sector scheme’

REASI :  District level Committee for “Development of Aquaculture in Private Sector” under UT Capex 2021-22 budget today reviewed and selected the beneficiaries under the scheme here at a meeting chaired by Deputy Commissioner, Charandeep Singh.

Charandeep Singh said that the main aim and objective of the scheme is to promote fish culture in the private sector as fish farming provides a source of employment and income generation besides offering a cheap source of animal protein to the rural masses.

Threadbare discussions were held on various components of the scheme. It was informed that district Reasi has been allotted the target of construction of Carp ponds and Biofloc Fish culture unit for which 50 percent funds have been provided under UT Capex Budget. It was also informed that in response to an advertisement issued by the Joint Director Fisheries Jammu office, 6 applications for construction of Carp units and 1 Application for construction of Biofloc fish culture units were received in Reasi District.

The scrutiny of applications and inspection to assess the feasibility of the sites was conducted by the technical committee and it has submitted a list of 4 feasible sites for construction of Carp ponds and 01 Biofloc fish culture unit.

The cases meeting the eligibility criteria were considered for construction of 4 Carp units and one for establishment of Biofloc Unit.

Charandeep Singh stressed upon the senior officers of concerned Department to take all necessary steps to clear the bottlenecks to complete the units in a time bound manner. He said that after completion of this project fish will be available to the people at reasonable rates and meet their protein requirements.

Charandeep Singh also said that steps will be taken to introduce water and land efficient technology (BFT) for promoting high yielding intensive fish farming in the district and to tap the water resources of the district for pisciculture.
