IIM Kashipur successfully concluded the second edition of the Annual Flagship event, Samanvaya 2021

 

Kashipur : Indian Institute of Management, Kashipur successfully conducted its Annual HR-conclave ‘Samanvaya’- Digital Chapter 2. The event was organized via an online platform, Zoom, and was streamed live on Youtube, keeping in view the pandemic situation around the globe. The event was based on the topic ‘Digital Disruption in recruitment’.

The event began with a welcome of the honorary panel including Mr. Pradipta Sahoo, Advisor to Board, Bank of India, Mr. Digwanta Chakraborty, India Talent Acquisition Head, BCG, Mr. Hitesh Khurana, Head – Talent Acquisition & Talent Management, Casio, Dr. Natwar Kadel Head – Centre of Expertise, People Strategy, Hyundai Motor India Limited, and Mr. Venkatesh Neelam Manager – Recruitment, Volvo Group India Private Limited followed by the opening remarks made by Prof. Mridul Maheshwari, Assistant Professor & Area Chair, Organizational Behavior & Human Resource, Indian Institute of Management, Kashipur.

Prof. Mridul emphasized on the contemporary challenges related to digitalization and how HR and the space of talent management are being evolved over the period of time. The panel was asked about their vision for digitalization and how they used the term “disruption” to re-invent themselves as market leaders, which formed the basis of the ongoing conversation about digital disruption.

Mr. Digwanta, where he emphasized the role of the pandemic in nurturing the futuristic model of digitalization for future talent, and also how the human-centric behavior and approach will still be an essential part of digital transformation in the HR industry. Followed with Mr. Digwanta’’s comments, all other co-panelists shared their views and opinions on digitalization where Mr. Pradipta said, “Digitalization is an enabler, not an enemy in itself. It has got convenience, increased the amount of measurability, reduced bias, and increased”.

The discussion covered multiple dimensions of human resources and digitalization including Talent war, CTO vs CDO, adaptability vs adoptability, innovation vs manpower, shared responsibilities of educational institutions and industry towards the students, and behavioral aspects of GenZ vs older generations. Referring to the emerging shift of digital infrastructure in HR, Mr. Natwar quoted that, “Every decade there will be a technological change and you have to adapt to it, businesses will need to change their business models and way of functioning be it the introduction of computers in the late ’70s or usage of AI, Blockchain or Big Data in the present scenarios”.

Mr. Khurana talked about the talent war and market trends and highlighted that it is a candidate-driven market, and we need the consumerization of the employee. He also commented on how the recruitment process has become a significant factor to attract the best talent and this is where digitalization plays an important role. Mr. Neelam explained the significant role played by AI, analytics, and social media platforms like LinkedIn in future recruitment processes and industry engagements.

The annual conclave helped the students to understand the emerging recruitment processes under the fast-paced digitalization of Human resource management and also how to be industry-ready from the multi-dimensional perspective of different industries i.e. Automobile, Banking, Consulting, Manufacturing, and Services. The panel also agreed on a broader aspect that an individual’s behavioral traits and value propositions play a significant influence in staying relevant in the industry for a longer period of time. This interaction provided participants with an understanding of how the process is constantly evolving and what kind of adaptability is required rather than reinventing the wheel again to benefit employees as well as the employer.
