Director Agriculture Kashmir visits Cold Storage facility at Sopore, Bla
SRINAGAR : The Director Agriculture Kashmir, Chowdhary Mohammad Iqbal today visited a Cold Storage facility at Sopore, Baramulla to explore possibilities of storage of Sweet Corn under controlled conditions.
Interacting with the young entrepreneur who is heading the cold storage facility and the sweet corn growers, the Director reiterated the commitment of providing better remunerative platforms to the growers.
He said that in the coming time Sweet corn cultivation will be a success story which will contribute in uplifting the economic status of the farming community.
The Director asked the Chief Agriculture Officer Baramulla to explore all the available marketing options in and outside the UT of J&K, besides ensuring the availability of sweet corn at the prominent places of the district so that sweet corn growers fetch better prices and get a high level of promotion among the masses.
Earlier, Chief Agriculture officer Baramulla presented a detailed progress report regarding the production and marketing of sweet corn in Baramulla district.
Later, the Director inaugurated Vegetable Kiosks and also inspected the District Agriculture Office complex at Sopore.
A delegation of farmers and growers of the Sopore and adjoining areas called upon the Director and put forth some demands which include setting up of a common collection centre for vegetables at Sopore.
After giving a patient hearing, the Director assured the delegation that their genuine demands will be met soon. He also visited a spot which was later identified for the common collection centre for vegetables.
Director was accompanied by Chief Agriculture Officer Baramulla, Yudwinder Singh Sasan; Nodal Officer Market Linkage, Shamsul Hassan Mir and other senior officers of the district.
