University of Mannheim: Mannheim economic researcher Volker Nocke elected a Fellow of the Econometric Society

The Econometric Society, founded in 1930, is an international society that unites researchers to advance economic theory as a sub-discipline of economics in its connection with statistics and mathematics. The Econometric Society publishes the journal Econometrica , one of the renowned “top five” journals in economics, and two other prestigious journals. The Fellows represent the highest authority in the Society. There are currently more than 700 elected fellows worldwide, including many Nobel Prize winners. Only 14 fellows (seven of them emeritus professors) are based in Germany. Two Fellows of the Econometric Society are currently researching at the University of Mannheim: Michèle Tertilt and Volker Nocke.

Before moving to the University of Mannheim, Volker Nocke worked at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), as well as at the universities of Oxford and Pennsylvania. His research interests lie in the areas of industrial economics and international trade. Much of his recent work has dealt with horizontal and vertical mergers, oligopoly theory, and competition policy. He has published in leading academic journals such as Econometrica , American Economic Review , Journal of Political Economy, and Review of Economic Studies . Nocke completed his doctorate at the London School of Economics and obtained a degree in economics from the University of Bonn.
