Freie Universitaet Berlin: Freie Universität Berlin Global Campus Prepares International Students for the Future
The Freie Universität Berlin Global Campus website addresses international students at various stages in their academic lives, whether they are preparing to study in Germany, want to supplement their existing undergraduate or graduate studies abroad with ECTS credits, or learn or improve their German. Students who are looking for a meaningful internship program in Berlin or who want to continue their professional education after completing their studies will also find the website helpful. Courses in German language and culture are available for all levels, starting with absolute beginners. Specialized courses deal with various academic fields such as sustainability, economics, history, art, and politics.
“The Global Campus website reflects the university’s commitment to acting as a catalyst for change,” says Dr. Herbert Grieshop, director of the Division International Affairs at Freie Universität Berlin. “Modern curricula, intercultural study trips, and cultural activities attract students from all over the world to learn, discuss, and gain intercultural experience at Freie Universität Berlin.” Future issues and the inclusion of the United Nations’ global “Sustainable Development Goals” (SDGs) play an increasingly important role.
The programs are designed for maximum flexibility, so that students can select components to suit their individual situation, such as the level of study and the type and dates of courses, as well as the service options they wish to benefit from. Some programs are fee-based, others free of charge; most programs are designed to run alongside studies. Courses are offered online and on site. A special feature of most courses is that Berlin, as a city, serves as an educational space itself and on-site instruction also takes place in cultural and political institutions in Berlin or as part of everyday life here.
“Advisors also get an overview of the multitude of offers and can make recommendations more quickly and precisely,” Grieshop says, emphasizing the benefit for the partner universities. New short films are also intended to inspire international students to study at Freie Universität Berlin and in the German capital, as well as draw attention to the housing options arranged by the university’s accommodation service. In the coming months, the website will continue to grow as new content is added continuously.
