University of Science and Technology of China: USTC Holds the Flag-raising Ceremony to Celebrate the 72nd Birthday of the People’s Republic of China

In order to carry forward the spirit of patriotism and have the school motto of “being patriotic and professional while integrating theory with practice” imprinted on every USTCer’s brain, the University of Science and Technology of China (USTC) held the flag-raising ceremony in Guo Moruo Square early in the morning of October 1st. Lots of teachers and students went to watch the ceremony voluntarily.

At 7:00 a.m., the flag-raising squad marched forward with a neat and uniform pace, escorting the national flag, the flag of Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and USTC’s. As teachers and students watched solemnly, the red “five-star” national flag was hoisted in the wind.

October 1st marks the 72nd birthday of the People’s Republic of China, and as Chinese, our steps have become more and more firm when going through hardships. The spirit of USTC motto has inspired generations of USTCers to serve our motherland through science and education. With the school song “Eternal East Wind”, the flag of CAS and USTC were slowly raised. At the moment, the pride and honor of being a USTCer were stirred in everyone’s hearts.

QIAN Kejian, an undergraduate student of the Department of Modern Mechanics, gave a speech under the national flag, in which he called on all USTCers to be hard-working and let the flower of youth bloom in the most needed places of the motherland.

After the ceremony, all the teachers and students sang “My motherland and I” to wish the prosperity of our country. “To be a pioneer for the great cause of communism” is the determination and solemn commitment of all USTCers to our country. The original mission of ‘serving the country through science and education and pursuing excellence” has remained the same for more than 60 years since the founding of USTC. USTCers will “remain true to our original aspiration and keep our mission firmly in mind”, and continue to contribute to the scientific research of our country.
