KU Leuven: KU Leuven expands top sports infrastructure with new beach and fitness hall
The University Sports Center is steadily expanding its (top-level sports) infrastructure. In 2015, the indoor athletics hall was opened, in 2018 the top sports hall and three years later the beach and fitness hall opens its doors. KU Leuven has financed the construction with support from the Flemish Government.
The hall is, among other things, the new home of Univ-Fit. The university fitness, which is open to the public, has been thoroughly renovated and expanded. “Our previous fitness room was no longer sufficient to meet demand,” says Pieter Van Kelst, manager of the University Sports Centre. “Now we have no less than a thousand square meters of sports space and a wide range of brand new equipment for strength and cardio training. Our coaches also provide the necessary guidance, for both novice and professional athletes.”
Under the roof is an indoor beach volleyball hall with three courts. There are hardly any indoor training facilities for beach volleyball in Belgium. This offers extra opportunities to professional teams, students from the top sports school, but also to KU Leuven students and other enthusiasts.
