ToFEI programme at Dept of Amraz-e-Niswan-wa-Atfal

Aligarh: To increase public awareness of the harmful and deadly effects of tobacco use, faculty members, students and non-teaching staff of the Department of Amraz-e-Niswan-wa-Atfal, Faculty of Unani Medicine, Aligarh Muslim University presented audio-visual aids, displayed banners and conducted counselling sessions.

The programme to enforce the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act (COTPA) and promote Tobacco Free Educational Institutions (ToFEI) was conducted in line with the Ministry of Education, Government of India guidelines.

“No-Smoking pamphlets and banners prepared by students were displayed in all offices-declaring the department as a non-smoking zone”, said Prof Suboohi Mustafa (Chairperson, Department of Amraz-e-Niswan-wa-Atfal).

Dr Diwan Israr Khan (Programme Coordinator) said: “Health messages communicated through this campaign will prove effective in changing behaviour and in building people’s confidence to quit tobacco use”.

Faculty members, Prof Syeda Aamena Naaz, Dr M Anas, Dr Fahmeeda Zeenat and Dr Abiha Ahmad Khan helped in conducting counselling sessions.
