Indian Universities to host top distinguished Science and Engineering Faculty from New Zealand
Mumbai: Indian institutions will be hosting academicians from New Zealand’s University of Waikato, Faculty of Science and Engineering in February this year at IIT (Indian Institute of Technology) in Bombay and VIT (Vellore Institute of Technology) in Chennai in February for research workshops.
The workshops are aimed at investigating research synergies and interests as well as promote potential collaborations between the New Zealand and Indian institutions.
The Waikato University academics will discuss a broad range of scientific topics, including their research surrounding computational mechanics, energy and water research, intelligent machine vision, sensor clouds and more.
The delegation includes researchers from Faculty of Science and Engineering and Faculty of Computing and Mathematical Sciences:
Michael Cree, Associate Professor in Electronic Engineering who specialises in machine vision including retinal imaging, 3D time-of-flight range imaging and biological approaches to visual odometry
Nihal Kularatna, Associate Professor in the School of Engineering who is active in research in supercapacitor applications, power supply topologies, and power conditioning.
Dr Leandro Bolzoni, Senior Lecturer who is a metallurgist and mechanical engineer who has specialised in materials science. His scientific interest is on the physical metallurgy of light metals and on advanced materials.
Dr Martin Atkins, Senior Lecturer in the School of Engineering at the University of Waikato, who focuses on research in energy systems engineering with a particular focus on developing and using Process Integration methodologies for optimising industrial energy systems and emissions reduction.
Dr Vimal Kumar, Lecturer in Computer Science who specialises in wireless sensors and security.
Professor Siniah Ilanko, who’s research areas include vibration and stability of continuous systems, numerical modelling and adaptive mechanisms.

The University of Waikato’s visit is aimed at strengthening the educational ties between the two countries. It is a part of a wider attempt to ensure that the MoU is substantial and dedicated to the pursuit of excellence for Indian students. New Zealand has advanced policy settings for international students particularly in terms of post-studies employment drive. They can apply for 3-year work visa after completing their degree.
