Tata Sons Chairman to receive DSC in special AMU online convocation
Aligarh: Mr Natarajan Chandrasekaran, Chairman of Tata Sons Ltd, the holding company and promoter of all Tata group companies will be conferred with the Honorary Doctorate Degree, Doctor of Science (DSC) Honoris Causa in a special online convocation of the Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) on November 15.
The online programme will be held from 11: 00 am on the day and the invitation with the web link to attend the convocation will soon be sent to the invitees, said Mr Mujib Ullah Zuberi, Controller of Examinations.
Mr Chandrasekaran will receive the Honoris Causa degree for his exemplary leadership in the performance of Tata group companies spread across 10 business verticals with aggregate annual revenues of over US $110 billion.
Mr Chandrasekaran has been on the Board of Tata Sons since October 2016 and was eventually appointed as the Chairman in January 2017.
He went on to chair the Boards of several Tata group operating companies such as the Tata Steel, Tata Motors, Tata Power, and Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) – of which he was Chief Executive from 2009-17.
Mr Chandrasekaran joined the Tata Group as an engineer in 1987 and has stayed a Tata employee ever since. He rose gradually through the ranks at TCS to become CEO and Managing Director of the leading global IT solution and consulting firm.
Under his astute leadership, TCS generated a whooping total revenue of US $16.5 billion in 2015-16 and fixed its position as the largest private sector employer in India and the country’s most valuable company.
Since 2016, Mr Chandrasekaran has also been the Director on the Board of India’s Central Bank and the Reserve Bank besides being on the International Advisory Council of Singapore’s Economic Development Board.
He is the Chairman of the Indian Institute of Management, Lucknow, the President of the Court at the Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru and a member of Bocconi’s International Advisory Council and the Co-Chair India US CEO Forum.
Mr Chandrasekaran is also on the Board of Governors of the New York Academy of Sciences.
His many distinctions and honours include a number of honorary doctorates—which he received from elite universities in India and abroad. He was awarded the honorary Doctor of Letters from Macquarie University, Australia and Doctor of Letters from the Regional Engineering College, Trichy, Tamil Nadu, where he completed a Masters degree in Computer Applications before joining TCS in 1987.
Mr Chandrasekaran authored ‘Bridgital Nation’, an ingenious and groundbreaking book on harnessing technological disruptions to bring Indians closer to their dreams.
He is also an enthusiastic photographer and a vehement long-distance marathon runner, who completed the World Marathon Majors including participations in the marathons in New York, Boston, Chicago, Berlin, Tokyo and London.
Mr Chandrasekaran lives in Mumbai with wife, Lalitha and son, Pranav.
