Dominican Republic Ambassador visits AMU

 

Aligarh : The Ambassador of Dominican Republic, H.E. David Puig visited the Department of Foreign Languages at the Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) for collaboration with the university and improving the India-Dominican Republic relationship through cultural and educational agreements.

During the visit, he spoke on the development of the educational, bilateral political, economical, cooperation and cultural agendas between India and the Dominican Republic and ways to further strengthen the cultural ties.

He urged AMU students to be at the center of cultural diplomacy and engage in soft action to establish intercultural dialogue.

Mr Puig stressed the need to develop and sustain relationships through cultural immersion and education.

In the welcome address, Prof Jawaid lqbal (Dean, Faculty of International Studies and Chairman, Department of Foreign Languages) apprised the Ambassador of Dominican Republic with the functioning of Department of Foreign Languages and emphasised the need of collaboration with the institutions of Dominican Republic.

He also presented a memento to the Ambassador.

Prof Mohammad Rizwan Khan (Chairperson, Department of English) discussed the need of teaching Spanish Language in Indian educational institutions to bridge the gap between India and Latin American countries.

Prof M Shahul Hameed (Department of Hindi) spoke about the translation of Dominican Republic literature into Hindi and other Indian languages.

Professor Rakshanda F Fazli, Dr Sawan Kumar Singh and Dr Fazila Shahnwaz spoke on strengthening ties between educational institutions of the two nations and advancing cooperation in research.

Dr Murad Ahmad Khan, Assistant Professor of Spanish, initiated the collaboration.

Dr Suhail Akhtar, extended the vote of thanks.
