Stakeholder Engagement workshop to develop adaptation pathways for Chimanimani

On November 16th, 20201, UNESCO will be hosting a stakeholder engagement workshop in Chimanimani, to discuss the development of adaptation pathways for the district.

Representatives from the Ministry of Environment, Climate, Tourism and Hospitality, the Meteorological Service Department, Zimbabwe National Parks and Wildlife Management Authority, Department of Agricultural, Technical and Extension Services, the Zimbabwe National Water Authority, local authority, traditional chiefs and local community representatives are expected to attend the technical session.

The objectives of the stakeholder engagement workshop will be to:

Update the stakeholders on the progress of the Climate Risk Informed Decision Analysis (CRIDA) for the district
Identify potential adaptation actions for the district
Develop adaptation pathways for the district along with stakeholders
The workshop is being organised in the framework of the Comprehensive Resilience Building in Chimanimani and Chipinge Distrcits in Zimbabwe initiative. The initiative which is part of the Zimbabwe Idai Recovery Project (ZIRP), which is funded by the World Bank and managed by UNOPS, aims to reduce the vulnerability of communities in the two districts to natural disasters, such as floods, droughts and landslides and to enhance water resources and ecosystem services management in response to the uncertainty of future climate change.

The Climate Risk Informed Decision Analysis (CRIDA) methodology developed by UNESCO is being used to address water and natural resources problems in the district. The methodology uses a five step wise bottom up approach to address the problems faced by the local communities. For the first step, a stakeholder engagement workshop to provide the local context was held on 8 June 2021 followed by step two focussing on climate stress tests for the districts.
