IIT Delhi’s State of the Art Research & Innovation Park Wins Prestigious Façade Project of the Year Award 2021
New Delhi: The Research and Innovation (R&I) Park of IIT Delhi, the country’s premier higher education institute, has recently been bestowed the prestigious Façade Project of the Year Award 2021 by the Construction Week India.
The R&I Park having utility services, restaurant, ATM, convention centre, parking space etc. was awarded this design accolade from several entries received from all over the country and through a rigorous evaluation process by an acclaimed design jury.
The judging criteria involved architectural merit, contribution to the built environment, façade engineering as a discipline, application of innovation and uniqueness of application, focus being on timely completion, quality and complexity of the project and sustainability.
Prof. V Ramgopal Rao’s (Director, IIT Delhi) brief envisaged this R&I Park as a physical assembly of spaces that would support the Institute, Industry and Government collaboration with an intent of creating high technology economic development, advancing Knowledge with focus on product innovation.
Prof J. T. Shahu, Dean Infra, IIT Delhi, said, “The R&I Park has been designed with an emphasis on sustainability, with flexible spatial configurations (of laboratories, offices, suites, multimedia) and modern state of the art amenities offering numerous resources to the users.”
The R&I Park of IIT Delhi spread over 300,000 sq ft, set in exquisite landscape, designed by the architect, Kunal Bose of M/s Bose Brothers and built by NBCC (and appointed contractors) is one of the first facility of this kind and has set a high bar for development of such infrastructure.
The Park will focus on innovation and product development where the institute researchers, corporates, government agencies and startups would interact and enable creation of advanced technological solutions.
IIT Delhi’s interface body the Foundation for Innovation and Technology Transfer (FITT) is inviting industry and startups to come on board for deeper engagement with the Institute.
“The R&I Park is slated to become a prominent centre for research and innovation leading to advanced technology platforms and deep-tech start-ups. The Park is expected to strengthen the techno-entrepreneurship ecosystem and contribute to the regional economic development”, Dr Anil Wali, Managing Director, FITT, IIT Delhi said.
“As our R&I park opens to host marquee corporates, we are looking forward to expanding the list to include major industry partners looking to collaborate with IIT Delhi faculty and co-create new technologies and/or products for the betterment of the society. We are expecting the R&I park to catalyze our efforts towards entrepreneurship, innovation, and collaborative research”, Prof Anurag Rathore, Dean, Corporate Relations, IIT Delhi said.
The key objectives of the state-of-the-art research park include,
- To accelerate research translation.
- Provide avenues for IIT Delhi students and faculty to interact more closely with industry. and bring to market technological breakthroughs through incubation.
- Amplify technological and societal impact of R&D at IIT Delhi.
- Galvanize entrepreneurial aspirations.
