Awareness program on POSCO, JJA held at GDC Thanamandi
RAJOURI : To raise awareness among the village level child protection committee about Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POSCO) and Juvenile Justice Act, the District Administration Rajouri, in collaboration with DCPU today organized an awareness program here at Government Degree College Thanamandi.
The program was organized on the directions of the District Development Commissioner, Rajesh K Shavan and under the overall supervision of the District Child Protection Officer, Wakeel Ahmed Bhatt.
Among the others, DDC Member Thanamandi, Abdul Qayoom Mir; President MC Thanamandi, Shakeel Mir; Principal GDC Thanamandi, Javed Qazi; Legal Cum Probationary Officer, Shivangi Kant; District Coordinator MSK, Nazma Sheikh besides students of the college attended the event.
The Resource Persons highlighted the issues faced by the Children and deliberated on the Protection of Children and their Legal Rights. Besides, the participants were also made aware of a number of Govt. schemes and motivated to avail the benefits of the same.
Highlighting the objective of the program, the speakers said that such programs are organized with the intention to make every child aware of his rights guaranteed under different laws and also to educate them the ways to fight any kind of physical, sexual, emotional or psychological abuse.
Discussing various provisions of the Juvenile justice act, Legal cum probationary officer, Shivangi Kant said that the act contains provisions for the care, protection, treatment, development and rehabilitation of neglected or delinquent juveniles and for the adjudication of certain matters relating to, and disposition of, delinquent juveniles.
District Coordinator MSK, Nazma Sheikh also threw a detailed light on a number of services being provided by the Mahila Shakti Kendra for the women and motivated them to avail the benefits of the same.
Concerned officers from the Food Safety Department also delivered a valuable lecture on the Eat Right Challenge campaign and advised the participants to adopt healthy food habits to remain healthy and safe from diseases.
