DDC Anantnag chairs DLC meeting for revival, restoration of Architecture & heritage

 

ANANTNAG : Under the chairmanship of District Development Commissioner (DDC) Anantnag, Dr Piyush Singla, today, a meeting was held for revival, restoration, preservation and maintenance of architecture and heritage in the district.

The committee members including ADC, SE, Deputy Director Archives Archaeology, CEO, District Statistics and Evaluation Officer were present in the meeting.

The agenda of the meeting was to identify the places and heritage sites where revival, restoration and renovation work is needed. The government has introduced a new scheme for revival restoration, preservation and maintenance of architecture and heritage. For implementation of the scheme a district coordination committee has been constituted.

The committee will ascertain the need and necessity of revival, restoration and renovation of sacred religious assets and historical monuments.

Speaking on the occasion, the DDC said that preservation of monuments of historic and religious importance is our fundamental duty and directed the committee to identify othe sites of importance for their renovation.

Deputy Director Archives, Archaeology and museums briefed the committee about the scheme. He said that a heritage census is being undertaken in the district as per the provisions of the scheme. He further added that through the census three monuments viz Devibal shrine Anantnag, Shrine of Resh Mael sahab and shrine of Sheikh Zain -u -din Wali Aishmuqam have been identified in the first phase.

Several other important sites and feasible renovation plans for these were discussed including Chota Amarnath at Thajiwara, shrine of Sat Rishi sahab at Akhingam, temple of Shiva Bhagwati at Achabal.

The DDC also stressed that renovation measures should be in line with guidelines of ASI and the historic aesthetics of the structures.
