GCW Parade organises international conference on Chemical Sciences

 

JAMMU : Department of Chemistry, Government College for Women, Parade Ground, Jammu organised a two day international conference on ‘Recent Advances in Chemical Sciences’ in collaboration with Cape Comorin Trust, Tamil Nadu. The conference was inaugurated by Dr Anju Chadha, Senior Professor, Department of Chemistry, Indian Institute of Technology, Jammu.

In her keynote address, the chief guest talked about biocatalysis and the use of enzymes to transform raw material into valuable and useful products. She also emphasized on the role of micro-organisms for the production of lactic acid, acetone etc. She also talked about the role of glucose is omerase in starch industry and role of RTPCR for the identification of COVID virus.

In his inaugural address, Principal of the College, Dr SP Sarswat, stressed for inculcating scientific temper among the students and also encouraged for organizing more events of this type for the benefit of students.

Dr Avinash Kumar Gupta, Head Department of Chemistry and Convener of the conference while welcoming the chief guest and other dignitaries attending the conference, presented a brief background for organizing the conference and said that such conferences provide a platform to researchers from diverse areas to come together and exchange their ideas.

During the proceedings of the first day, two plenary lectures by noted academicians and researchers -Dr Nazar Hussain from the Department of Medicinal Chemistry, Banaras Hindu University and Dr Gurpreet Kour from the University of New South Wales, Australia were given. Two technical sessions, chaired by Dr Aijaz Ahmad Dar from University of Kashmir and Dr Princy Gupta from Central University Jammu, were also held during the day.
