GCW Udhampur organises series of activities to mark National Girl Child Day

 

UDHAMPUR : As a part of “Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav”, Women Development Cell of the Government College of Women (GCW), Udhampur organised a series of activities to commemorate the “National Girl Child Day.”

The events were held under the guidance of the Principal, Prof. Minu Mahajan and convener Women Development Cell, Dr Anita Sharma (HoD Physic).

Prof. Minu Mahajan said that National Girl Child Day is observed every year on 24th January to promote awareness about the rights of a girl child and also to promote the importance of their education, health and nutrition etc.

Essay writing competition was held online on January 22, 2022 on the topic “Impact of girl child marriage on global health”. Around 10 students of the college participated in the competition.

Shreya Sharma of Sem 1st secured first position, Purvashi of Sem 5th secured 2nd position and Neesha of Sem 5th secured 3rd position.

Dr Mool Raj (HOD Urdu), Dr Meena Gupta (Asstt. Prof, Dept. Of English) and Dr Tsering Cherol (Asstt. Prof, Dept. Of Hindi) acted as judges for the Essay writing competition.

An online Debate competition was also held on January 22, 2022 on the topic “Opportunities and Challenges for girl child in contemporary Indian Society”. As many as 29 students of the college participated in the event and highlighted the role of the women in the society and challenges faced by them.

The first position was shared by Radhika Sharma and Khushi of Sem 3rd, the 2nd position was secured by Yashaswani of Sem 5th and 3rd position was shared by Purvashi Talwar and Anita Devi of Sem 5th.

Prof. Yash Paul (HOD History), Prof. Roopa Kumari (Asstt. Prof, Dept. Of Education) and Dr Usha Sharma (HOD Sociology) acted as judges for the Debate competition.

An online Quiz on the topic “Contribution of Indian Women in the uplift of social setup of women” was also conducted on January 24,2022 evening as a part of series of events.

In the quiz, a total 123 students participated. They were presented e-certificates. Five students Neesha of Sem 1st, Samiksha Thakur of Sem 3rd, Radhika Sharma of Sem 3rd, Rupali Sharma of Sem 5th and Varsha Thakur of Sem 3rd fetched 100% marks in the quiz. The activities were organised by the members of Women Development Cell namely Sumita Rao(Asstt. Prof, Dept. Of Zoology), Dr Shaveta Sharma ( HOD Dept. Of Political Science), Tania Mahajan(Asstt. Prof, Dept. Of Zoology) and Rekha Sharma (Asstt. Prof, Dept. Of Dogri).
