DC Ramban launches Leprosy awareness campaign SPARSH

 

RAMBAN : Deputy Commissioner, Mussarat Islam today launched the Leprosy Awareness Campaign- SPARSH. He flagged off a vehicle here from District Administrative Complex for sensitizing the people of the district about treatment of Leprosy and Covid vaccination in the 15-17 age group.

Additional Deputy Commissioner, Harbans Sharma; CMO, Dr, Mohd.Fareed Bhat, CEO, VK Koul; Xen PWD, Vinod; Dy. CMO, Dr. Iqbal Bhat; DNO, AYUSH, Dr. Sanjay Chadha; Tehsildar, Rafiq Ahmed and several other officers attended the programme.

An awareness programme was also organized by the Health Department at the District Hospital.

After inaugurating the campaign, the DC said that campaign would help to eliminate certain stigma and prejudice about the disease by and also identify new cases so as to provide them early treatment.

The DC further said that the government has decided to organise a nationwide leprosy detection campaign on the death anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi to curb the crippling disease.

While talking to the media, the DC informed that the campaign will continue till February 13, 2022. He said that the awareness vehicle will visit different parts of the district to make masses aware about the leprosy and Covid vaccination, especially in the 15 to 17 year age group.

The DC urged the health workers to involve more workers to make the awareness programme successful. He further urged the people to cooperate in this leprosy eradication awareness campaign and help the affected persons in getting the treatment. “The leprosy is fully curable if detected early”, he added.
