Capacity Building Programme concludes
Aligarh : Faculty members, post doctoral fellows and senior research scholars enhanced their methodological skills and developed potential with exposure to the latest advances in their subjects and technological spin off in the recently concluded, two-week duration, Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR) sponsored Capacity Building Programme of the Department of Geography, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU).
In the Valedictory Function, Vice Chancellor, Prof Tariq Mansoor stressed the need for multi-disciplinary research.
“It is imperative to explore new areas for research such as biodiversity, climate change, green energy, food processing and sustainable development among others”, he said adding that aptitude, patience and awareness are of utmost importance in teaching and research.
Speaking on National Education Policy-2020, Prof Mansoor emphasised that there is a need for market oriented research that will generate employment.
“I am sure that the participants made the best use of this programme to understand the applications of techniques in different research problems. Programmes like these help the faculty members and researchers to enhance their writing for quality research papers and efficacious project proposals and prepare them for better field work”, said the Chief Guest, Prof K N Singh (Vice Chancellor, Central University Bihar, Gaya).
The Guest of Honour, Prof Nisar Ahmad Khan (Dean, Faculty of Social Science) said that the programme provided a platform to the faculty and researchers to learn and understand new ideas, research capabilities, ethics, tools and techniques of research.
He also spoke on knowledge exploration.
Prof Nizamuddin Khan (Course Director) spoke about the contents of 36 sessions held in the programme.
“Training on the latest research methods was imparted to the participants and lectures were delivered to hone their research and pedagogical skills by 18 subject experts and resource persons from across the Country”, he said giving an overview of the programme with its aims, objectives, design, and areas.
Prof Nizamuddin informed: Fifty participants, including 20 from AMU, were selected for the programme from the disciplines of Geography, Law, Political Science, Sociology, Education, West Asian Studies, Management, Economics, and Commerce.
The Capacity Building Progamme was sanctioned by the Indian Council of Social Sciences Research-ICSSR to Prof Nizamuddin and Dr Mohammad Taufique (Co-Course Director).
Speaking on AMU’s ranking by various national and international agencies, Prof S Naushad Ahmad (Chairman, Department of Geography) said the university keeps making its mark by increasing the quality of research every year.
“Faculty members and students have worked hard to raise the bar in academics and with the help and support extended by the Vice Chancellor and the university administration, AMU sits comfortably on the top positions of ranking agencies”, he added.
Prof RK Mishra (Ex-Director IPE, Hyderabad), who also attended the valedictory function as the Guest of Honour remarked: “The National Education Policy-2020 emphasizes on identifying research-oriented minds to boost quality research and development”.
He also spoke on the link between progress in society and research.
Dr Mohammad Taufique (Co-Course Director) extended the vote of thanks.
